Sherwood Island Hosts STAR’s 13th Annual 5k Run, Walk & Roll

Family and friends came in support of STAR Inc’s 13th Annual STAR 5k Run, Walk & Roll at Sherwood Island State Park on Sunday, May 6.
Runners, walkers, and rollers alike gathered at the starting line in the support of the organization’s efforts to improve the lives of neighbors with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). STAR is located on Elm Street in New Canaan, in addition to their Norwalk headquarters.
The event raises funds for STAR’s programs benefiting local individuals with (I/DD) through Birth to Three Early Intervention therapies, Customized Job Training and Placement, Scholarships for classes and self-enrichment programs for over 600 people per year in Fairfield County. There were over 45 teams signed up to walk and a turnout of over 600 walkers, runners and volunteers who helped raise over $100,000.
Local “Captains” who participated in STAR’s race include Ellie Kahn from New Canaan, Westport residents Wyatt Davis, Jenna Herbst and Stefan Esposito, Weston resident Jonathan Piazza, Wolf Bagnati of Norwalk, and Darien resident Ashley Milne.
Several local celebrities came out to spend the day with participants. A humble thank you to Miss Connecticut USA, Jamie Hughes, Miss Connecticut Teen USA, Elle Sauli, Miss Umpteen Dazzling Daze CT, Brenda Alexander, Miss Teen Dazzling Daze CT, Haliyah Boone, and lastly the Westport Vineyard Vines staff and Whale Mascot who delighted everyone with pink whale hats and other great Vineyard Vines goodies.
