Fay McBrayer Memorial Scholarship Fund

Your generous donations allows STAR clients the opportunity to experience and enjoy community-based, cultural programs they would not otherwise afford or experience. Examples of programs include: dance classes, art classes, tennis lessons, acting classes, horseback riding classes and horse care, fitness/gym classes, animal programs at nature centers, pottery classes, aquatic fitness, trampoline classes, computer classes, cooking classes and more.

The generous annual support of these donors allows STAR the opportunity to continue its growth and service to the community.

Gifts in Honor or in Memory

Commemorate family or friends with a special gift that supports STAR, Inc. When you make a memorial or honor donation, STAR sends a card to the family or honoree acknowledging your thoughtful donation. You can add a personalized message to the card. You receive a confirmation when your donation has been received and the gift card has been sent. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding or other special occasion for the person who has everything or as a tribute to the life of a loved one that perpetuates their memory while helping our neighbors who have disabilities.

Sponsorship

You earn a maximum return on your contribution by providing a sponsorship donation. When you sponsor a fundraising event for STAR, your gift is acknowledged in marketing and publicity materials for the event, and your initial gift helps ensures a proportionate return of additional donations brought in by the event. The two largest fundraisers held each year are our Galaxy of Stars Gala Dinner Dance and Auction and the STAR Walk, Roll & Stroll.

IRA Rollover

Donors can now gift up to $100,000 from their IRA's to support charities.

The Protecting Americans From Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 was passed in the House and in the Senate. With bipartisan support, the bill makes permanent several tax extenders that help donors support their favorite charities. PATH was signed by the President on December 18, 2015.

Two of the permanent charitable provisions that help STAR are:

1. IRA Charitable Rollover - Each IRA owner over the age of 70 1/2 may make a transfer of up to $100,000 per year to a qualified charity. IRA charitable rollovers are tax-free and not included in adjusted gross income. The IRA charitable rollover may fulfill part or all of your required minimum distribution (RMD).

2. S Corporation Appreciated Gifts - A Subchapeter S corporation maygive appreciated stock or land to a charity. Only the basis of the S corporation in the donated asset will be used to reduce the shareholder basis, even though full fair market value deduction is claimed by the shareholder.

The permanent IRA Charitable Rollover is good news for all philanthropists. Donors may now plan to help their favorite charities. Because the IRA rollover is not reported in taxable income, it is a convenient and simple way to help charity, reduce your adjusted gross income and simplify your tax return.
